Pen Drives – What Are They For?

March 11th, 2010 by admin

Pen drives are an amazing little invention that allows you to transfer files using a small pen like structure. They were created to take the place of the floppy disk and to make it easier to exchange and store information. With it being so small, it can be carried anywhere and give you the convenience that you may require.

For business purposes, the small backup device makes a handy mode of transportation. It can be inserted right on your keychain which makes it the ideal way to store and carry information. Now taking work home with you is a breeze with a small pen drive to store all of your work. No more carrying around floppy disks and hoping that they do not get ruined or lost, the pen drive can fit into your pocket with comfort or slip into a purse or wallet or on to a key chain or body chain.

The end of the pen drive has a protective cover on it that clips into place. That means that you don`t have to worry about files getting damaged do to wear and tear. The cover keeps everything safe, while you have it in your pocket or at the end of your key chain.

The pen drive can store lots of different files. It can store and transfer, photos, spreadsheets, word documents, movie clips, music tracks and anything else that would normally go on to a floppy disk. Your entire project or book can be stored right on it. Some people have a few devices, although with the space on each one, you don`t need that many.

The pen drive has more space on it than a few floppy disks, which really does make it more valuable because it can utilize more space and hold more files.

For personal use, many people use them to store pictures on them. They can hold a few years worth of pictures which make them the ultimate photo album. Being able to store photos on them, it means that it can keep them safe for as long as you need them there, in the future if someone wants a copy of a picture or you lose some pictures, you can just revert back to your pen drive and retrieve the pictures again.

Not only does the pen drive store your pictures for you, but you can also take it into a store and use it with a picture maker machine. There is a slot on the machine to insert it and from there you can view your pictures and have them printed out.

Many teachers use a pen drive to store all of their projects and class assignments. It is a handy way to transfer information back and forth from home to school. This is convenient for teachers to use them because they usually have lots of school work to carry home and home work assignments from all the kids. With arms full of papers and folders to mark, having the small device to hold other pertinent information is easier to lug around.

The pen drive has a USB connector on one end and fits into a USB port on your computer or lap top. You can load files on to your computer for viewing or for saving, or you can transfer files on to it right off of your computer. It is very easy and simple to do.

Why Does Love Drive People Crazy?

March 9th, 2010 by admin

If you talk to two persons – one who has never felt love, and other who is deeply in love, you will find them talking in a very different way. If you ask the person who has never loved about what he/she felt about the other’s talk, the answer will be- crazy!

Is it true? Does love drive one to madness? It may not be madness as understood by psychiatrists, but a madness of emotions. Am I right? Why does love do that? To understand this, we have to explore more about love or romance. Is it friendship? Is it physical attraction/ is it liking for each other? What is love and what is this relationship all about? Love combines all these and goes much beyond in bonding. Lovers are bonded to each other emotionally and totally. A lover can not imagine of life without his/her beloved. A lover will suffer like a fish suffers without water , if he/she is separated from the beloved. Love becomes the whole life. Love gives life. Love becomes the reason of life. Life begins and ends with love. That is love. And that’s why people call love mad!

How and why a lover feels like this for beloved is beyond any logical explanation. There is no arithmetic sum that can decide this. It is all emotional. And the emotions are so overwhelming that they engulf the whole personality. Why does a flower look lovely to all of us? Why are we attracted by the sight of a beautiful sunset? Why do we love to walk on the beach? Do we know? Can we answer these questions? Our only answer may be that – I feel happy doing it. A lover feels happy, rather so happy in love that it can not be compared with any other happiness. One forgets one’s pains, one’s pleasures and one’s existence when in love.

Fall in love and feel the madness. You will get a clue to why lovers are called mad.

Should You Fly or Drive to your Destination?

March 8th, 2010 by admin

If you are like me and you tend to do a lot of long distance traveling then you will often come up against the decision to either fly or to drive to get where you are going. If you find yourself struggling with making that decision then here are some things that you can keep in mind.

1. You should count the costs. There are costs involved with everything and that always will play a part in the decision making process. I know that for me I am flying from my Florida home to the Washington DC area in 2 weeks. I was considering driving, but it is over 1100 miles one way. This will cost me about $120 in gas for each leg of the trip plus two nights stay in a hotel. I found some tickets online last night and it is under $150 for a round trip flight. I can fly there and rent a car for much less than it costs me to drive and I don’t have the wear and tear on my vehicle.

2. Know your mission – Sometimes cost is not the only feature that you look at. I know that when my wife traveled with me that we often like to take our time and stop at different places along the way. That way we get to spend some alone time together and to see and explore places that we may never have stayed. So if you have the time and feel a bit leisurely on this trip then consider doing it like that.

3. Arrive Alive – Sometimes I’m just plain nervous about driving all that way. Sure I know the rules that keep me safe while on a road trip but statistically it is much safer to fly rather than drive. So sometimes that is the deciding factor, do I really feel like making a long drive?

Keeping these few things in mind when making your decision to drive or fly to your destination may help you to make that decision. Whichever way you choose make sure that enjoy the trip that is in front of you.

Solid State Drives – SSD Facts You Should Know

March 7th, 2010 by admin

If you’re interested in the latest technology, then solid state drives have probably been on your radar for awhile now. Also, known as an SSD, these drives are being hyped as the next wave of greatness for laptops and for computers in general.

The big question, however, is do they deliver on all of these promises or, like so many grand advancements promoted in the past, just overhyped.

To answer those questions, we first need to learn a little bit more about these drives. Then we’ll delve into how they stack up to their promises.

A Little Background

Basically, these drives aren’t new but they made a huge splash in 2007 at the Consumer Electronic Show held in Las Vegas. They were heralded as the solution to many problems facing those of us who love portable computing.

Basically these devices are types of hard drives which do not rely on magnetic media for their memory storage. Instead, they use semiconductors much like flash memory drives already do. In fact, both of these storage devices use similar non-volatile memory chips.

However, the main difference between the two is that the solid state drive is not used as an external memory storage system like flash drives. They are built to be installed internally in place of a traditional hard drive.

If you’re wondering why using SSD’s would be a good idea, there are several advantages being promoted by industry insiders. This is where most of the promises come into the picture.

Basically, these drives are considered great inventions because they are believed to deliver three amazing benefits: reduced power usage, faster access to memory, and improved reliability. All of these benefits are a result of the differences in the way solid state drives and traditional hard drives work.

Most of us have at least a basic understanding of how our hard drives work. Inside them are spinning magnetic platters where everything we do on our computers is saved.

To work though, they rely on drive motors to move them. If anything happens to those motors or to the drive heads, then our hard drive ceases to function correctly and we’ll end up shopping for a new laptop or desktop.

These alternative drives don’t have all of those extra parts. Everything is done through Flash memory chips and most of us know that the portable Flash memory we use in our cameras and other storage devices does a pretty good job of saving quickly and of working when we need it to.

As you can imagine, having a drive that uses less power, is less vulnerable to damage, and is able to retrieve data faster would be a dream for most laptop owners. That’s why it’s important to look at whether or not these drives really deliver on these promises.

Do Solid State Drives Deliver?

Many laptop manufacturers have already released products contains solid state drives so there are some on the market which allow us to get an idea of how they are stacking up to these promises. First, we can look at the promise of quick data access.

Unfortunately, there have been some problems with customer satisfaction in this area because of the hype. People are promised the moon and are disappointed when the drive can’t live up to their elevated expectations.

Evidence has shown that these drives do wonderful when you’re reading average size files. You’ll be able to access them quickly. However, if you’re working with large files or trying to save large files, you won’t see those fast speeds.

Now remember these drives are still in their infancy in terms of this type of use so that doesn’t mean these problems won’t be corrected down the line.

Another huge promise is improved battery life for laptops because of the reduced power requirements. For one, this promise could never really deliver because the hard drive isn’t what uses up most of your laptop’s battery in the first place.

The screen, the RAM, and your CPU are doing most of that for you. Generally, you’re only talking about a 5% improvement in battery life and that’s not much of a bargain considering how much these drives add to the price of a laptop.

Finally, we can look at reliability. Since the drives haven’t been available that long, we really need more time to evaluate this claim. However, we do know that unlike traditional hard drives which can be written on indefinitely. Solid state drives can only a certain number of times depending on the technology used.

This is still sufficient for most needs but given the costs , and whilst these writes will

Only time will tell if these problems can be rectified so that solid state drives can truly live up to everything they are promised to be.

Hard Drive Problems That Can Cause a Hard Disk Crash

March 6th, 2010 by admin

A hard drive crash can occur for various reasons, which will be discussed in the next paragraph. There are many factors which increase the likelihood of disk failure, and most of these are not related to the age of the hard drive. When a hard disk fails, many people try to open the drive and repair it themselves. This is a big mistake because the internal components of a hard drive are very fragile and susceptible to dirt, dust, scratches, fingerprints, and corrosion.

Reasons Hard Drives Fail

The simplest reason for physical hard drive failure is a burnt circuit board. When a circuit board has failed, the drive will not spin up. Another reason a hard drive might not spin up is motor failure. When the hard drive motor fails, the drive will either not spin at all or will spin at a degraded and unpredictable speed. Many times, users will hear a clicking sound coming from their hard drive. This clicking sound indicates either corrupt firmware or head crash. Both will require extensive labor from a data recovery company in order to repair and recover the data. Other reasons for physical drive failure are a broken read/write arm, water or fire damage to the hard drive, scratched platters, or bad hard drive bearings.

Hard drives can also fail due to logical problems such as computer viruses, bad sectors, cyclic redundancy errors, blue screen errors, and more.

How To Recover Data

Since the internal components of a hard disk drive are fragile, it is important to use a data recovery company to help recover data. Such companies are well equipped to open a hard disk in a clean room environment to protect the disk drive from corruption while attempting to repair it. The damaged drive must be repaired first in order to recover the data. The repair is not designed for long-term use. It is repaired for short-term use in order to recover the data only.

USB Password Manager – Keep All Your Passwords on USB Drive!

March 4th, 2010 by admin

My mind is not a good storage of important information and so I have a real problem remembering dates, people’s names, shop names and even my own Internet logins and passwords. However, I found a perfect solution to the problem – USB password manager. This program allows me to totally free my mind of the necessity to remember such information as city zip codes, telephone numbers, credit card details, and even my own logins and passwords.

When you surf the web, you often have to fill in forms for opening web accounts, buying products, registering at forums and blogs. So you can end up having hundreds of logins and passwords, which are hard to remember. For me, as a web writer, it turned into a real problem since I have to register at hundreds of websites, forums and social networks.

It used to be a total disaster, but then I found a perfect solution – USB password manager. It simply records all your account information to a database when you type it on the web. So the next time you visit a particular website, where you need to fill in a form or submit login and password, the password manager does the job for you automatically. The huge advantage of this software is that I can keep it on my USB flash drive together with the personal information database, so whenever I need to travel or simply go to an Internet café – all I have to do is connect my USB flash drive to the computer and my web surfing becomes much simpler.

Talking about other functions of the USB password manager, it is worth mentioning that it is a very user friendly piece of software. The personal information database is created automatically after the installation of the program to a USB flash drive, and the password manager toolbar is added to your browser toolbar. The password manager toolbar is a perfect add-on to either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer browser with such features as Google search bar, Fill form button, and the Autosubmit function. It also provides immediate access to popular websites such as Yahoo, Amazon.com etc.

Another useful functionality of the USB password manager is the ability to create strong passwords which consist of a random combination of letters and digits and can never be cracked. You can even specify the password parameters such as how long, how complicated, use upper or lower case or both. Machine passwords are more sustainable to hacking attempts than human-made password. The mere length of a machine-made password makes it more secure, and security is vitally important if you publish your personal information on the web.

To continue the list of USB password manager benefits, I should say that the amount of typing that you don’t have to do, if you choose to use it, is really impressive. If I had to manually type all those extended forms which I now fill in with just one or two mouse clicks, thanks to the password manager, it would take me years to do the job which I now manage to do in just seconds! And, since you don’t have to type anything, no keylogger or other malicious software will be able to compromise your passwords.

I recommend using USB password manager to all of you!

All-wheel Drive for Porsche 911 Targa

March 3rd, 2010 by admin

Porsche enthusiasts are excited about the new offer from Porsche. This offer is all about the permanent all-wheel drive given by the automaker to Porsche 911 Targa. The vehicle is now on sale.

All-wheel drive (AWD), otherwise called as four-wheel drive, 4×4, 4WD, is a term used to describe a 4-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that is capable of allowing all the four wheels to simultaneously get power from the engine. This feature is commonly associated with off-road vehicles nonetheless; all-wheel drive is crucial in providing better control on slippery ice and race tracks on paved streets.

The term is originally used to describe truck-like vehicles that necessitate switching between a 2-wheel drive mode for roads and a 4-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions like ice, gravel and mud. AWD is common for identical drivetrain systems that will be marketed for both the upmarket and downmarket branding. However, it is also common for different drivetrain systems that will be marketed under the same name for brand homogeny.

Porsche aficionados can now enjoy the fact that AWD is now made permanent for Targa. Aside from the AWD, Targa is equipped with lots of breath-taking Porsche car parts. Both Targa and 996 have common denominator and said feature contribute significantly to its “wow factor.” The striking feature is the huge glass roof and opening rear window. The glass roof plus the rear window are capable of inviting light and fresh air when they are left opened. The glass roof can be opened by up to half a meter in a matter of 7 seconds. This can be done by employing 2 electric motors. According to the automaker, to fully open the roof, it would take about 0.45 square meters.

Porsche factory parts for the roof panel of Targa are built of 2-ply tinted glass, which is lighter by 1.9kg than its predecessor. The automaker has developed a sealing system that minimizes wind noise. Also, wind deflector reduces turbulence inside the car. Targa also allows open-air free-spirited driving when outside temperature is accommodating. Subsequently, the semi-translucent roller sunblind is used to provide shade in the interior of the car when the roof is closed. The roller blind and the glass roof can be maneuvered using a rocker switch.

Porsche 911 Targa is powered by 3.6-litre six cylinder 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine that delivers 239kW. The S variant, the most powerful among the variants, uses a 3.8-litre engine that produces a top speed of 355bhp. The car is also equipped with Porsche VarioCam Plus valve control system, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), and other striking car features.

A long tail lamp looks sleek and elegant even as it indicates work in progress by the light it emits. It can be worn round the neck and is favoured by men who wish to sport their dare devil preferences in accessories.

For those who prefer tiny flash drives there are the 2GB models, which is compatible both with Macintosh and PC platforms. It has therefore easy connectivity and no extra drive is required. For the security conscious there is lock system, which can be activated only with the help of a password. It works on windows only. For such a tiny device it is extremely fast and efficient and can be stored in minimal space.

The flash drives are another interesting variety which carries both programme and data files without posing any problem for the user with a PC unequipped with certain programme files. This is a distinct advantage when one is travelling and needs to connect into alien work platforms. It is encased in a tough liquid metal casing and can be slid into a groove and held with the help of clips on a belt. It is thus easy to carry and comes without the hassle of a cap. External Hard Disk Drive: The Best Backup Medium

February 27th, 2010 by admin

Want to backup quickly and easily? Backup to external hard disk drives.

As a hard disk is the fastest and largest backup medium you can get, you may want to backup all your important files to an external USB hard drive. You can backup literally everything: your Outlook and Outlook Express files, your bookmarks, your favourite save games, and of course, your important work documents, photos, images and maybe even videos.

As an external HDD is detached from your system and, combined with a strong encryption algorithm, like blowfish or 3DES, you can get maximum security. Just make sure you actually remember the encryption password. You can also store your external hard disk offsite (at a friend’s house, a paid locker or specialized fire-proof storage place) in case your information is very important (well, generally, anyone can do that and it can’t hurt for sure).

As external USB drives have the cheapest storage volume (about 200Gb for $150?) and you can reuse them for several years, you may as well get the cheapest backup medium at your disposal. When using a backup schedule, you can simply backup the backup program run when you are absent (or maybe even at night) to backup everything without supervision. If you need two or more backup disks, you may as well get another external HDD.

Also, now there are quite large mobile hard drives, which can admit all the necessary data: work documents, e-mail files, etc. You can also carry your data anywhere you want and feel safe, because some external USB HDDs are now hard to break by dropping.

So, go with external HDD and backup as fast as you want, as much as you want, secure your important data, get the cheapest backups and even be able to carry your backups anywhere you want.
